Council President Bill Liess
I am pleased to welcome you to the new Little Falls
Democratic Organization web site, and for this
opportunity to share with our residents views
regarding township issues and actions of the Little
Falls Council. For this first message I want to
explain the position of Council President, as it is
new to the Mayor/Council form of government that
took effect in Little Falls on January 1, 2005.
The Council President is selected by the council for
a one year term beginning January 1 to December 31.
The President serves as the presiding officer for
all council meetings, with the authority to approve
and establish the agenda items that the council
addresses at each regular meeting and work session.
In addition, the Council President represents the
council in meetings with the mayor and township
administrator on matters that need to be addressed
between council meetings.
Members of the Little Falls Township Council serve
on various council committees and boards that have
been authorized by the council, with a their
appointment to the positions made by the Council
President for the length of the Council President's
term. The work of council members extends well
beyond attendance at council meetings, with much of
the activity and resolution to township issues the
result of committee and board meetings that often
includes community representation. This past year
has been one of continued activity to more fully
establish the council's role in our new form of
government, with the planned adoption of new Council
Policies and Procedures, while addressing the many
community needs that require our action. I have
always considered it an honor to serve in this
position, and to bring with this service a clear
definition of what the role of Council President
should be now and in the future.
I look forward to seeing you and other readers of
this site at our meetings to experience first hand
the role of your Little Falls Township Council
representatives.
Sincerely,
Bill Liess
Council President |
